Holy Spirit Part 3
The Holy Spirit given to Gentiles
- Acts 10:44 While Peter
yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which
heard the word.
- 45 And they of the
circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came
with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the
gift of the Holy Ghost.
- 46 For they heard them
speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter,
- 47 Can any man forbid
water, that these should not be baptized, which have received
the Holy Ghost as well as we?
- 48 And he commanded them
to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to
tarry certain days.
The Holy Spirit is given to some that were
already believers in Jesus Christ.
- Acts 19:1 And it came to
pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed
through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain
disciples,
- 2 He said unto them, Have
ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto
him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy
Ghost.
- 3 And he said unto them,
Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's
baptism.
- 4 Then said Paul, John
verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the
people, that they should believe on him which should come after
him, that is, on Christ Jesus.
- 5 When they heard this,
they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
- 6 And when Paul had laid
his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake
with tongues, and prophesied.
- 7 And all the men were
about twelve.
The Holy Spirit sends those He chooses to go
where He sends them.
-
Acts 13:1 Now there were in the church that was at
Antioch certain prophets and teachers; as Barnabas, and Simeon
that was called Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene, and Manaen, which
had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.
-
2 As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the
Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work
whereunto I have called them.
-
3 And when they had fasted and prayed, and laid
their hands on them, they sent them away.
Our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit
to dwell in. We are not to defile His temple.
- 1Corinthians 6:12 All
things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all
things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the
power of any.
- 13 Meats for the belly, and
the belly for meats: but God shall destroy both it and them. Now
the body is not for fornication, but for the Lord; and the Lord
for the body.
- 14 And God hath both raised
up the Lord, and will also raise up us by his own power.
- 15 Know ye not that your
bodies are the members of Christ? shall I then take the members
of Christ, and make them the members of an harlot? God forbid.
- 16 What? know ye not that he which is joined to an harlot is
one body? for two, saith he, shall be one flesh.
- 17 But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit.
- 18 Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the
body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own
body.
- 19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy
Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your
own?
- 20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in
your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.
The Holy Spirit warns of bonds, afflictions
and future persecution.
-
Acts 20:22 And now,
behold, I go bound in the spirit unto Jerusalem, not knowing the
things that shall befall me there:
-
23 Save that the Holy Ghost witnesseth in every
city, saying that bonds and afflictions abide me.
The Holy Spirit uses prophets to warn of
things to come.
-
Acts 21:10 And as we tarried
there many days, there came down from Judaea a certain prophet,
named Agabus.
-
11 And when he was come unto us, he took Paul's
girdle, and bound his own hands and feet, and said, Thus saith
the Holy Ghost, So shall the Jews at Jerusalem bind the man that
owneth this girdle, and shall deliver him into the hands of the
Gentiles.
-
12 And when we heard these things, both we, and they of that
place, besought him not to go up to Jerusalem.
-
13 Then Paul answered, What mean ye to weep and to break mine
heart? for I am ready not to be bound only, but also to die at
Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.
-
14 And when he would not be persuaded, we ceased, saying, The
will of the Lord be done.
The Holy Spirit uses women as well as men.
Here is an example of women prophesying.
- Acts 21:8 And the next day
we that were of Paul's company departed, and came unto Caesarea:
and we entered into the house of Philip the evangelist, which
was one of the seven; and abode with him.
- 9 And the same man had four
daughters, virgins, which did prophesy.
The Holy Spirit builds us up in the faith and
enables us to be able to pray in the spirit.
- Jude 1:20 But ye,
beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying
in the Holy Ghost,
The Holy Spirit helps us to keep the word of
God. The Holy Spirit dwells within us who have received Him.
-
2Timothy 1:13 Hold fast
the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith
and love which is in Christ Jesus.
-
14 That good thing which
was committed unto thee keep by the Holy Ghost which dwelleth in
us.
