Jeremiah Chapter 27
We see now the power of God in determining who rules the nations and for how long. God is in control. This should be a comfort to those who trust in God. To those out of the will of God, in rebellion against God or without the knowledge of God, will not appreciate the fact that God is in control. The king of Babylon would have had no power if God did not allow it. God even calls this king His servant at that time in history. This was allowed for a time because of the sin of the nations in the area the King of Babylon was given power over. Evil nations are allowed to continue for a short space but their judgment will also come to an end. Babylon was conquered later by the Medes and Persians. This also was planned by God. I have no idea how long God will allow each nation in today's world continue. I believe it will depend on how each nation observes and trusts in God and on how they treat their citizens. We need to be humble and recognize the power of God and not be high-minded. We cannot trust in the might of our armies and navies. We are only powerful if God allows it. If God should take His hand of protection from us, we would be as weak as the weakest nation on earth at this present time. We are only as strong as God allows us to be. This strength may depend on our fear of God, our treatment of Israel, our treatment of true Christians and those who preach the gospel, our treatment of the poor and whether we observe the word of God. Making God unconstitutional in the school system is the worse thing we could have ever done as a nation. We don't have to have a religion running the government as in the days of the Middle ages but it doesn't hurt to recognize Him in the public sector and teach His commandments and honor His name. If the atheists don't like it, tough. We should fear God not the not the anti God protesters. If the ten commandments were posted in every public school, the fear mongers would have kittens but just maybe the kids might read it and decide not to kill anymore of their fellow students. Maybe they would decide there is a God in Heaven who sees them and they would be less likely to steal. Maybe our schools would not need a security guard at every door. What better security is there than the protection of God? Why would God go where He is not welcome and where He is ignored? They ignore God whom they believe to be a fable and instead actually teach fables and call it science. I've read the theory of evolution and I think it is one of the silliest, impossible ideas mankind has ever dreamed up. This is not science it's just guessing and supposing. True science would explore all possibilities but the teaching of creation is forbidden. Why? What are they afraid of? True science should not fear creation. True science should want to find out if it's true. Why don't scientists want to explore, find out and search for the real truth instead of settling for a crazy theory that has no proof and is impossible. Look at down at two hands, two feet, two eyes and the birth of a baby. Unless disease or some other misfortune causes it to go wrong, look at how perfect each one is developed. How can that be an accident of millions of years of evolution? Notice that just as in the days of Jeremiah's prophecy, the majority were wrong and the small remnant who believed Jeremiah was right. Today it is the same way. The majority teaches and believes evolution. The majority ignores God, the majority teaches lies and says that sin is not wrong. The remnant teaches truth, a small few stands up for righteousness. Jesus Himself said that the wide is the gate that leads to destruction and narrow is the way that leads to life.
When Jeremiah warned about the coming siege of Babylon, false prophets arose and said the very opposite. Naturally the people chose to hear the good words and fair speeches instead of the truth. For some reason most of us do not like to admit wrongdoing and repent. We prefer to think God is on our side, even if we are committing sin. Mankind either ignores God, does not believe in God or else they think God does not care if they commit adultery and sexual sins as long as we don't steal or kill anyone. What we don't realize is that if we are allowing abortion, we are killing. If we lust after a neighbor's wife or husband and commit adultery, we are stealing. If we cheat in business, we are stealing. If we gain by defrauding someone else, we are stealing. If a young man gets a young lady pregnant and ducks responsibility, he is stealing also. If we commit sexual sins and spread disease upon others, we are stealing their lives from them. We hurt others by living in sin.
Any who surrendered to Babylon and thereby recognizing the judgment of God would be allowed to stay in Judah and not be driven to other lands. This is not written to tell us not to fight for our country and defend our families. God in the book of Joshua told Joshua to fight against those that attacked them. In this case though, they were under the judgment of God. They were not to resist only in this case. That is why God sent prophets to warn them ahead of time not to resist. There was a way out but it was to genuinely repent and turn back to God. Then God would turn back the armies of Babylon Himself.
At this point it seems like the siege of Babylon is inevitable and repentance cannot stop it. They had their chance before. Now God is giving them a chance to at least save their lives and allow them to remain in Judah but as subjects to the king of Babylon.
Men were predicting that the vessels the Babylonians stole form the temple will be returned. God said that that prophesy was a lie.
All the remaining items in the temple also would be carried away until the day the Lord says they are to return. It is sad to say that all this could have been avoided if only............ If only they had listened and returned to God. God was the one who really cared about them. God was the one that really loved them. If only.......... This is true today. Folks, we avoid the very one who loves us the most. We spend little time with the very one who offers us the most. We fail to worship the one who will give us eternal life. What politician, what rich business owner, or what leader of the greatest most powerful country in the world can give us what God can? Who in the whole world could possibly love us as much as God does? God loved us so much that when mankind was lost and going to an eternal hell because of the sin that had come into their lives after the fall of Adam, He sent His only beloved Son, Jesus Christ pay the penalty for all the sins that mankind ever committed. Jesus was the supreme sacrifice to pay for all our sins. All God asked for us to do was believe this. All He required us to do is recognize that we have sinned and are in need of a savior. Then Jesus would take our old filthy sins away. He paid the price for us to be free from every one of them. We then become born again and will inherit eternal life. The people you think love you could not possibly love you as much as Jesus Christ. He loved so much He stayed on the cross until the penalty for sin was accomplished. That debt was paid for by His staying on the cross until death came to His body. He would not allow the angels to free the nails from His hands. Jesus knew that if He allowed Himself to think only of His own pain that we would be forever lost and in a burning hell with no way of escape. He stayed there for you and He stayed there for me. His precious body was put in a grave and many thought it was finished. But after three days the Spirit of life entered into Jesus and God rose Him from the dead never to die anymore. The price is paid for and all who accept and believe this will have eternal life. Our sins put Jesus on the cross but our faith in Him is necessary for His death to count on our behalf. He can take those sins away. Just as Jesus rose from the dead, we will also rise from the dead at the return of Jesus. You might say, that you don't believe all this stuff. Well, what if I'm right and your wrong. If you are right, we have nothing to lose and we all die one day and it's over but if I'm right and you are wrong and refuse to believe in this way of salvation God planned then you will lose your soul for eternity with no way to escape. God made a plan because of His love for us. He could not allow sin to continue. Sin has to be judged. He had to judge Israel in the time of the Old Testament. He had to judge Sodom and Gomorrah to stop their sin. Sin has to be judge. A penalty had to be paid. Jesus paid that penalty but it only counts for those who repent of sin and believe on Him for salvation. To those who continue in sin without turning to Christ; they will die in their sin and suffer the penalty for their sins. If they don't accept the salvation God provides for them they will burn in hell forever. God does not want that. God loves you and sent Jesus to save you. You can be saved this moment without waiting another day. Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and believe what He did for you. Believe that He loves you and you can be born again and inherit eternal life. God will not break His own law. The soul that sins, it shall die. The body dies physically, the soul is bound in hell for eternity. The soul that sins will surely die if sin is within them at the point of their physical death. Death is the price for sin. Jesus died. Jesus died when He did no sin. He was innocent. The price He paid can count for all who have to die because they have sinned. Unless one dies as a small child too young to be held accountable, he will die lost if he dies in his sin. Because of Christ we do not have to die in sin. We can be saved. All we have to do is turn away from sin and turn to Christ by believing in what He did on our behalf. DC
