Psalm Chapter 104

  • Psalm 104:1 Bless the LORD, O my soul. O LORD my God, thou art very great; thou art clothed with honour and majesty.
  • 2 Who coverest thyself with light as with a garment: who stretchest out the heavens like a curtain:
  • 3 Who layeth the beams of his chambers in the waters: who maketh the clouds his chariot: who walketh upon the wings of the wind:

Our human minds cannot even pretend to imagine the greatness of God. We do know that when Moses was in the presence of God on the mountain, his face shown when he came down from the mountain. God must be very bright and full of light. If we saw Him face to face in our present bodies, we could not stand in His presence.

  • Exodus 34:30 And when Aaron and all the children of Israel saw Moses, behold, the skin of his face shone; and they were afraid to come nigh him.

Moses had to put a veil on his face when he came from speaking to the Lord. God surely must be glorious.

  • Psalm 104:4 Who maketh his angels spirits; his ministers a flaming fire:

This is repeated in the book of Hebrews. This shows the importance of angels in ministering to those who live for God and serve Him.

  • Hebrews 1:6 And again, when he bringeth in the firstbegotten into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him.
    7 And of the angels he saith, Who maketh his angels spirits, and his ministers a flame of fire.
    8 But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom.

We see here that angels have a different purpose than Jesus the Son of God. Angels also are called sons of God but are ministers of God. The Son of God, we call Jesus (Yeshua) is our savior and Lord that even angels are to worship.

We are never to worship angels and a true angel of God will not accept worship but give glory to God. Some of these modern day angel movies really concern me because they are not scriptural. We have to be careful not to accept everything that comes along even if it seems to teach a moral truth.

The bible is our only source for truth. All other things have to measure up to scripture before we can accept them as truth. Some are laying aside scripture and going by feelings, visions and dreams. If we do that we are going to get confused because everyone will be different and teach a different things. In saying that though God does speak to some with visions and dreams. That is scriptural but we are to discern all things and compare it to God's word also discerning whether it is from God or just our own crazy dreams we have. Prove all things.

We must keep with the word of God that has already been proven to be true over time. God preserved it for us and kept it so that we can understand and not be confounded. We must also be careful of the newer versions coming out. Some of them are not God's word.

  • Psalm 104:5 Who laid the foundations of the earth, that it should not be removed for ever.
  • 6 Thou coveredst it with the deep as with a garment: the waters stood above the mountains.
  • 7 At thy rebuke they fled; at the voice of thy thunder they hasted away.

Some believe that in the beginning the earth was covered with water and at the voice of God the waters abated and dry land appeared. We do know from the book of Genesis that the earth was without form and void and darkness covered it until God made light. In the days of Noah a flood was sent to cover the earth and God later rebuked the flood and dry land appeared again. God created dry land and gathered the waters into seas at the beginning of creation and also again after the flood of Noah.

  • Genesis 1:9 And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so.
  • 10 And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good.

We see from the beginning, the love and greatness of God. The Psalms bring this out many times and teaches us to rejoice and praise God for His greatness.

  • Psalm 104:8 They go up by the mountains; they go down by the valleys unto the place which thou hast founded for them.
  • 9 Thou hast set a bound that they may not pass over; that they turn not again to cover the earth.

That is why the sea stays in place. Occasionally a storm might bring the waters inland but they eventually return to the place God set for them to stay.

  • Psalm 104:10 He sendeth the springs into the valleys, which run among the hills.

Fresh spring water that has not been polluted is the best drinking water there is.

  • Psalm 104:11 They give drink to every beast of the field: the wild asses quench their thirst.

See how God cares for the animals. He is a good God.

  • Psalm 104:12 By them shall the fowls of the heaven have their habitation, which sing among the branches.
  • 13 He watereth the hills from his chambers: the earth is satisfied with the fruit of thy works.
  • 14 He causeth the grass to grow for the cattle, and herb for the service of man: that he may bring forth food out of the earth;

Again we see that God not only created the animals but also made mankind after His own image. He took care to provide for us herbs and food for all to eat.

  • Psalm 104:15 And wine that maketh glad the heart of man, and oil to make his face to shine, and bread which strengtheneth man's heart.
  • 16 The trees of the LORD are full of sap; the cedars of Lebanon, which he hath planted;
  • 17 Where the birds make their nests: as for the stork, the fir trees are her house.
  • 18 The high hills are a refuge for the wild goats; and the rocks for the conies.

This should cause us to rejoice when we see the planning and care that went into creation. Everything God created has a way to survive, get food and multiply. Trouble came when sin entered the world and everything now doesn't always work how it is supposed to. Things now go wrong but before the fall of man, things worked perfect and it will be that way again when Jesus  our Christ returns to set up His kingdom.

  • Psalm 104:19 He appointed the moon for seasons: the sun knoweth his going down.

Even the seasons are appointed by God. He designed every detail. How wonderful God must be. We can't possibly fathom all His wonders. See how the theory of evolution absolutely is impossible.

  • Psalm 104:20 Thou makest darkness, and it is night: wherein all the beasts of the forest do creep forth.
  • 21 The young lions roar after their prey, and seek their meat from God.
  • 22 The sun ariseth, they gather themselves together, and lay them down in their dens.
  • 23 Man goeth forth unto his work and to his labour until the evening.
  • 24 O LORD, how manifold are thy works! in wisdom hast thou made them all: the earth is full of thy riches.

Even after the fall of man, we see His care and can wonder at His creation.

  • Psalm 104:25 So is this great and wide sea, wherein are things creeping innumerable, both small and great beasts.
  • 26 There go the ships: there is that leviathan, whom thou hast made to play therein.
  • 27 These wait all upon thee; that thou mayest give them their meat in due season.
  • 28 That thou givest them they gather: thou openest thine hand, they are filled with good.
  • 29 Thou hidest thy face, they are troubled: thou takest away their breath, they die, and return to their dust.
  • 30 Thou sendest forth thy spirit, they are created: and thou renewest the face of the earth.

We depend on the mercy of God for our existence. Without Him we would die. At His word we rise or fall. It is dangerous to ignore God and try to leave Him out of our minds. All nations should fear the Lord and seek out His word for without Him they will fall. Read the story of Sodom and Gomorrah for an example.

This is in Genesis 18:20 to 19:28. Abraham tried to stop God from destroying the cities but God could not even find 10 righteous people in it. The corruption and evil was so bad, God had to destroy it.

  • Psalm 104:31 The glory of the LORD shall endure for ever: the LORD shall rejoice in his works.
  • 32 He looketh on the earth, and it trembleth: he toucheth the hills, and they smoke.
  • 33 I will sing unto the LORD as long as I live: I will sing praise to my God while I have my being.

This is why believers sing and shout praises to the Lord. He is worthy. Even after the fall of man, God brought in a plan to save mankind from eternal death by sending Jesus, His only Son. Whosever repents of sin and turns to Jesus Christ can be saved, inherit eternal life, and be part of the kingdom that is to come.

  • Psalm 104:34 My meditation of him shall be sweet: I will be glad in the LORD.
  • 35 Let the sinners be consumed out of the earth, and let the wicked be no more. Bless thou the LORD, O my soul. Praise ye the LORD.

Since God made a way that all can be saved, those that reject that way and remain in their sin will be the ones consumed out of the earth. Now is the time to escape this coming judgment. All can have eternal life and escape this if they come to Jesus Christ, the only way of salvation. Jesus paid the sacrifice for sins by shedding His own blood to redeem us back to God. It is up to us to receive  this way God has provided or reject this way and remain full of sin.

  • Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
  • 24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:
  • 25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;
  • 26 To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.

When we believe in what Jesus did for us and receive Him into our lives, we are then justified. Our sins are washed away. We become new creatures in Jesus and old things are passed away. Just like God renewed the earth in the days of the flood and made all things new physically, through Jesus all things can be made new spiritually. This has to be done in order for us to inherit eternal life.

  • 2Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

Are you in Christ or outside the gate? Now is the accepted time and the day of salvation. Don't wait until it is too late. Turn from sin and man's ways, and believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. You can be saved now.  DC
