Psalm Chapter 110

A Psalm of David.

  • Psalm 110:1 The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.

Here definitely is a prophecy of Jesus Christ who was yet to come at the writing of this prophecy.. Jesus is now on the right hand of the Father in Heaven until His enemies is made a footstool.

  • Matthew 22:41 While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them,
  • 42 Saying, What think ye of Christ? whose son is he? They say unto him, The Son of David.
  • 43 He saith unto them, How then doth David in spirit call him Lord, saying,
  • 44 The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool?
  • 45 If David then call him Lord, how is he his son?

He was the son of David because of the lineage that Christ was to come through Joseph even though Joseph was not the natural father of Jesus, but He was the Son of God because He came from God and has now returned to God. Joseph decended through the kingly line of David by way of Solomon. Mary descended from David through his son, Nathan.

  • Psalm 110:2 The LORD shall send the rod of thy strength out of Zion: rule thou in the midst of thine enemies.

Christ will rule and set up His kingdom at His second coming. The first coming of Jesus was to die for sins. If we miss this, we will have no part in the Second Coming and eternal life. The sin question had to be dealt with first before we could inherit the kingdom. Sin cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

  • Psalm 110:3 Thy people shall be willing in the day of thy power, in the beauties of holiness from the womb of the morning: thou hast the dew of thy youth.

All those who dwell in the kingdom and are partakers of God's holiness will be willing, having washed their sins that were forgiven because of the blood of Jesus. By repenting of sin and turning to Jesus, we can be saved and be part of the kingdom to come. To reject this is to be lost and without God forever.

  • Psalm 110:4 The LORD hath sworn, and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek.

Here is a prophecy of the office of priesthood for Jesus Christ. His priesthood is eternal and He is now interceding on the behalf of all who believe in Him. Without the blood of Jesus covering our sin, God would see the sin and we would be lost. By receiving Jesus, all sin is washed away by His blood that He shed on the cross. We get a hint of what was to come on the night that the death angel passed by houses in Egypt that had blood on the doorposts. The first born of Egypt died if they did not have that blood on the door. This is why the Jewish people celebrate Passover. If we have the blood of Jesus covering our sins, judgment will also pass over all who receive Him as Lord.

  • Exodus 12:21 Then Moses called for all the elders of Israel, and said unto them, Draw out and take you a lamb according to your families, and kill the passover.
  • 22 And ye shall take a bunch of hyssop, and dip it in the blood that is in the bason, and strike the lintel and the two side posts with the blood that is in the bason; and none of you shall go out at the door of his house until the morning.
  •  23 For the LORD will pass through to smite the Egyptians; and when he seeth the blood upon the lintel, and on the two side posts, the LORD will pass over the door, and will not suffer the destroyer to come in unto your houses to smite you.
  • 24 And ye shall observe this thing for an ordinance to thee and to thy sons for ever.
  • 25 And it shall come to pass, when ye be come to the land which the LORD will give you, according as he hath promised, that ye shall keep this service.
  • 26 And it shall come to pass, when your children shall say unto you, What mean ye by this service?
  • 27 That ye shall say, It is the sacrifice of the LORD'S passover, who passed over the houses of the children of Israel in Egypt, when he smote the Egyptians, and delivered our houses. And the people bowed the head and worshipped.

This is also why Jesus is called the lamb of God.

  • John 1:29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.
  • 30 This is he of whom I said, After me cometh a man which is preferred before me: for he was before me.

Oh to open our eyes and realize what is available to anyone who would believe in the Son of God and receive the love, joy, peace, purity, everlasting life, freedom and the being in the fellowship with God our Father, also being indwelled with the very presence of the Holy Spirit. What time we waste seeking the riches of this life when the things that are eternal and worth more than all the riches upon the earth is ours for the asking and receiving.

  • Revelation 7:13 And one of the elders answered, saying unto me, What are these which are arrayed in white robes? and whence came they?
  • 14 And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.
  • 15 Therefore are they before the throne of God, and serve him day and night in his temple: and he that sitteth on the throne shall dwell among them.
  • 16 They shall hunger no more, neither thirst any more; neither shall the sun light on them, nor any heat.
  • 17 For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes.

Whoever is on the Lord's side at His coming will dwell with Him forever more. The wicked one and those that follow him will not win.

  • Psalm 110:5 The Lord at thy right hand shall strike through kings in the day of his wrath.
  • 6 He shall judge among the heathen, he shall fill the places with the dead bodies; he shall wound the heads over many countries.
  • 7 He shall drink of the brook in the way: therefore shall he lift up the head.

As in Egypt so it will be at the Lord's coming. Those who believed and did what the Lord commanded were not destroyed by the destroyer. That blood of the lamb represented the supreme sacrifice of Jesus Christ that was to come. Those that obeyed the commandment to place blood on the doorposts were saved, those that did not believe suffered judgment. The book of Revelations tells of the final end and the judgment. To refuse the way God planned for all to be saved by the shed blood of His own Son, Jesus is very serious. Jesus paid a high price for our sins to be forgiven. If we do not receive Him, there remains no other way to be saved.

  • John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
  • 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
  • 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

Let us not delay to receive something so important that God would allow His own Son to die for sins. Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and be saved this day.  DC
