Psalm Chapter 112

  • Psalm 112:1 Praise ye the LORD. Blessed is the man that feareth the LORD, that delighteth greatly in his commandments.

The word of God can become our delight. Think about all that we delight in. What makes us happy? If the word of God is our delight, we are the happiest that a person could be. His commandments can be our delight. Usually when a person first starts seeking God, he or she cannot get enough of God's word. The word is the delight of the soul. We would devour the word just to find out who God is and what is His commandments.

I remember times in my past when I would prop the bible up on a shelf while I did my ironing. I would read a verse and then meditate upon it while ironing. I even tried it while washing dishes or doing chores that required me to be in the same spot for a long period of time. That method probably will not appeal to everyone but I only mentioned it to bring out the fact that the word of God can become so delightful that it becomes a book we can't put down. When a person really starts to seek God and delights in the word, they rarely become bored. The reason being is that God is not boring. By the way, I seldom iron any more unless I'm doing a sewing project.

  • Psalm 112:2 His seed shall be mighty upon earth: the generation of the upright shall be blessed.
  • 3 Wealth and riches shall be in his house: and his righteousness endureth for ever.

If someone profits from a life in sin with total abandonment to God and God's word, the success is only temporary. If we who believe and trust in God happen to be blessed with wealth and then we lose that wealth, we are still wealthy in the things that count. Our true treasure is in Heaven where we can't lose it unless we turn from God and stop serving Him.

  • Psalm 112:4 Unto the upright there ariseth light in the darkness: he is gracious, and full of compassion, and righteous.

Traits of a person who trusts in God are being gracious to others and being full of compassion.

  • Psalm 112:5 A good man sheweth favour, and lendeth: he will guide his affairs with discretion.

Other traits of one who lives for God is honesty and discretion. He or she is is fair and has integrity.

  • Psalm 112:6 Surely he shall not be moved for ever: the righteous shall be in everlasting remembrance.
  • 7 He shall not be afraid of evil tidings: his heart is fixed, trusting in the LORD.

When God is our Lord and we have received Jesus as savior, we have peace in troubled times as well as when times are good. We don't have to fear anything. If we lose everything we are still rich, if we die we go to be with the Lord. We can't lose.

  • Psalm 112:8 His heart is established, he shall not be afraid, until he see his desire upon his enemies.

Enemies of the righteous will never win in the long run.

  • Psalm 112:9 He hath dispersed, he hath given to the poor; his righteousness endureth for ever; his horn shall be exalted with honour.

Giving to the poor because we have compassion and not just to be seen of men as a great person, will reap a just reward.

  • Psalm 112:10 The wicked shall see it, and be grieved; he shall gnash with his teeth, and melt away: the desire of the wicked shall perish.

Jesus our Christ will overcome all enemies at His Second literal coming. Right now we are to love our enemies and share the gospel with them. If they refuse or persecute those that bring the gospel, they will be among those that suffer the judgment of God for their wicked deeds. The one sin that keeps so many out of Heaven and eternal life is the sin of failing to repent of sins and turn to Jesus  for forgiveness of sin. When we repent of sin, and receive Jesus in our lives, we become born again by the precious spirit of God. God commands all to repent.

  • Acts 17:30 And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent:
  • 31 Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.

After the coming of Christ we are commanded to repent and believe in Christ to be saved. Repentance is necessary to be born again and inherit eternal life.

  • Acts 2:37 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?
  • 38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

The Holy Spirit convicted the hearts of these people and they asked what they could do to be saved. Verse 38 tells them to repent and then they could receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. It is God's will that all be saved and come to this knowledge. It is up to us to share this with as many as we can that others will come to Jesus the very Son of God. DC
